I wanted to design two characters for a video game concept idea I came up with in Hawaii after seeing the lava flows around the island.
Following a recent trip to Hawaii, I was inspired to create the characters Menehune and Pahoehoe.
Menehunes are a mythological race of dwarf people in Hawaiian tradition who are said to live in the deep forests and hidden valleys of the Hawaiian Islands.
Pahoehoe is basaltic lava forming smooth undulating or ropy masses.
Menehune
Menehune is a Hawaiian who lives on his own private island in the Hawaiian island chain. He takes care of his hut and island and spends his time relaxing while fishing in his canoe.
Game Concept
One day Pahoehoe arrives on Menehune’s island and tries to destroy it. Menehune fights back against Pahoehoe relying on his skills and knowledge about the island, trying to save his paradise against the destructive lava.
Pahoehoe
A hungry lava spirit, who travels from island to island destroying each one in his wake.
Game Strategy
The user can decide which character they want to be, Menehune or Pahoehoe, and follow the story line for that character and try to win.
